Hi and welcome to our latest 3DS Max tutorials by Dave Scotland.
This tutorial is going out at half price just $14.99 USD, partly because in this time of financial uncertainty everyone likes a bargain and partly because we want to show off our new instructor. This is a great tutorial for people starting out with 3DS Max so if you'd like it at a price that will probably make our accountant cry then grab it now!
We're also pleased to announce SimplyMax.com has now been taken over by a new team, we have three new instructors - the first of which i introduce to you now Dave Scotland. Dave comes to us from a 10 year background in the industry including companies such as Disney (Japan) and Warner Brothers (USA). We've had him create a free tutorial for you, his "3DS Max Tips n Tricks Volume1" so you can all get a look at him in action as well as the new video format we are using. Our intention is to completely repopulate the site with tutorials over the next two months so stay tuned.
In this tutorial, we learn how to create a stylish Mag rim complete with a slick racing tire in 3DS Max. We will start by going over various reference images to assess the visual make-up of the desired product and to familiarize ourselves with what we are trying to ultimately achieve. Once this is done, we will block-out the object with basic primitives before moving onto more detail, through the use of “sub-poly modeling” or “mesh-smooth modeling”. As part of this process, we will learn how to maintain crisp edge detail and also how to keep smooth organic curves.
Once the model is built, we will learn how to create a simple lighting system which includes GI or global illumination and also how to create and apply base materials for the rim and tire elements. We will then take these materials further and design some great text graphics for the tire and learn how to apply them over the base materials. We will then learn how to create and apply a displacement map for certain text elements.
Once these various processes have been completed, we will be left with a very stylish looking “Sports Racing Wheel Assembly” which can be used in conjunction with a full vehicle model or to simply be placed in our growing arsenal of 3D assets and skills. This tutorial also covers some Basic V-ray Techniques which will help you create professional looking shots for your clients in this competitive industry.
If you buy now your tutorial will be ready for instant download.
We hope you enjoy this tutorial and please feel free to comment on our forums
